Hydrax (Pty) Ltd is a consulting company specialised in Non-revenue water (NRW) reduction and water supply efficiency projects. Formally being a new company, the capability is backed by 20 years of professional experience in the water sector, and 10 years of exclusive experience in water efficiency projects – specifically NRW and water loss reduction projects.
The experience comprises holistic NRW projects, including water pressure management initiatives, leak detection and repair, asset management, bulk and domestic meter management, billing and consumer data base analysis, field measurements, monitoring and control, NRW Water Audits and Water Balances, training courses and managing NRW management programs across several countries including South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Argentina, Ecuador, Bolivia, Nicaragua and Honduras.
Hydrax helps water utilities and water networks responsible to minimise water losses and maximise revenue, using the latest methodologies and providing newest technologies in the water sector, and doing this in a way that assures skills transfers and project sustainability.

Ignacio M. Peña – Managing Director
Ignacio has more than 20 years of professional experience in the field of civil engineering, but mainly in water management. As a result of many years working for different consulting engineering companies, he gained experiences in different stages of water engineering projects, from tendering to design and implementation. Ignacio is passionate to water management and engineering solutions.
Ignacio is the founder and Director of Hydrax (Pty) Ltd. He has been the Project Engineer and Project Director for a number of projects in Africa, Central and South America, all related to system stabilization, energy optimization, water supply efficiency, and NRW reduction.
He has been responsible for analysing water losses in a large number of water supply systems, from a complete utility including several supply systems, down to reservoir zone and District Metered Areas (DMAs). More importantly, Ignacio has large experience in providing engineering solutions to unbilled authorised consumption, physical losses and commercial losses.
